Investing your super
One way to make sure you get the most out of your super is to choose the right investments. What's best for you will depend on several factors, including the time you have before you retire, your attitude towards risk and return, and the level of involvement you want to have.
We understand that no two people are the same, so we offer 10 different investment options. You can choose just one, or you can spread your money across two or more.
Investments are usually divided into two types:
Growth Investments like Australian Shares, International Shares & Property. This type of investment has the potential to produce higher returns over the long term. There is a trade off however as Growth style investments also tend to produce less predictable returns so there is a greater chance of an unexpectedly low (or high) returns over the shorter term.
Defensive Investments like Australian Bonds, International Bonds & Cash. This style of investments carries a lower risk and as a result they generally also deliver lower returns over the long term.
'Mix your own' or let the experts do it for you
One decision you'll need to make is whether you're a 'hands on' type of investor - that means deciding your own mix between shares, property, bonds and so on - or if you prefer to have investment experts do that for you.
If you prefer to leave it to the experts, you can choose from Asset's 4 'blended' options:
- High Growth
- Medium Growth
- Stable Growth
- Socially Responsible
If you'd rather 'mix your own' investments, Asset offers 6 single sector options that you can spread your money across in whatever proportions you decide:
- Australian shares
- International shares
- Property
- Australian bonds
- International bonds
- Cash
There's more information about our investment options here as well as in the Super Members PDS and our Flexible Pension PDS for the product you are considering.
You can also download our Guide to Investing your super. It includes a comparison table that shows, for each option, the performance objective, investment mix, risk profile, investment timeframe, recent investment returns and investment-related charges.
If you don't make a choice
You may prefer not to make your own investment choice - or you may simply need more time to think. In that case we'll invest your money in the Medium Growth option. It will stay there until such time as you choose something different.
