Asset Super is committed to protecting your privacy, and we are bound by the relevant National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

We use the information we collect about you to administer your superannuation investments and life insurance arrangements, as well as to provide you with all the information you need to know about your membership of the fund.

What information do we collect and how do we use it?

When you join Asset Super, you provide us with personal details which may include:

  • your name, date of birth, sex, mailing address, phone number, email address, tax file number, your occupation and salary.
  • sensitive information such as your medical history and other health-related information which is needed for insurance-related purposes (eg, to apply for death, sickness and disability insurance). Any sensitive information we collect will only be used for the purpose for which it was provided, unless you agree otherwise or the disclosure of the information is allowed by law.
  • investment-related information such as the amount of your superannuation contributions (including rollovers, employer contributions, salary sacrifice and spouse contributions) and your investment preference.
  • bank account details for us to pay you your benefit.
  • other personal information such as details of your spouse and your preferred beneficiaries.

This information is collected on our behalf by the administrator of the fund. Some of the information may be provided to other parties such as the fund's insurer to assist them in assessing your application for insurance cover or in processing your claim for an insurance benefit. Other third parties to whom your personal information may be disclosed include (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • your intended, current and former spouse for family law purposes;
  • rollover or pay institutions, such as clearing houses;
  • regulatory bodies such as APRA, ASIC, ATO and AUSTRAC;
  • advisers such as our lawyers and accountants or those of the fund's insurer or administrator;
  • service providers contracted by us to provide us with administrative, financial, research or other services (eg, to monitor member satisfaction or to assist us in consolidating your superannuation account).

Generally, we require that third parties who handle or obtain information as service providers to us acknowledge that such information is confidential and to undertake to comply with the relevant National Privacy Principles.

We may also use the information we collect to notify you occasionally about important changes to our website or about other superannuation or non-superannuation products or services you might find valuable. If you would rather not receive this information please notify us in writing.

How do we protect your information?

Only authorised staff who are employed under strict confidentiality agreements have access to your personal details. The administration systems used to manage your superannuation incorporate the use of secure computer storage facilities (hardware and software products) which protect against misuse and unauthorised access any electronic information we collect from you containing personal information. All paper based copies with your personal information is also protected in our secure archiving system.
